Warré hive

The Warré Hive

A simple hive developed by  Émile Warré in the 1930s.

Warré developed this simple hive which he called the ‘People’s Hive’. It is simple to make and inexpensive to run. Fundamentally, it enables the Bee to retain its own nest atmosphere. The nest warmth, vapours of propolis and a three dimensional array of pheromones are essential to the nurturing and development of brood and healthy bees. The husbandry used to manage the hive is largely non-intrusive and Bee-centred.
